Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

            Welcome to First Grade!  This will be my sixteenth year teaching and like every other year, I am ready to get started!

            We will spend time getting to know each other and will start the year off on the right foot.  We have a great reading series to work with, and while all subjects are important, we really focus on this area.  I will be working hard to find books that will meet your child’s personal reading level.  I also integrate science and social studies content into our core reading block.  It is important to build strong connections from those areas into the purposes of reading.  We will be using the My Math program this year, and we will be supplementing that series with math activities, small group centers, and math games.

            In addition to academic classes, your student will also participate in special classes throughout the week.  These include phy. ed., music, art, library, and guidance.  Please look for the schedule for these classes on another sheet.
