Diane Tremblay, the administrator for the Barron Area School District, was a Grade 4 student when her parents, Paul and Susan Baron (only one “r”) moved to northwestern Wisconsin from northern Illinois more than three decades ago, and bought the Twin Bay Resort, on the Chippewa Flowage.
After growing up in Sawyer County, Tremblay had plans to go into veterinary school, until her future husband, Charles, decided to move back to Hayward “because he needed to take over the family business and wanted to take a look at expansion potential. To make a long story short, we decided to get married and raise a family (in the Hayward area),” Tremblay said.
Instead of pursuing a career as a veterinarian, Tremblay decided to go into education.“I got my teaching license in the broadfield sciences and taught anything that needed to be taught. I was granted opportunities to teach mathematics, social studies and a variety of science coursework over the years. Whatever it took!”
“Inspired by Bill Mestelle, who was my former boss, I began to moving into an administrative role about 11 years ago,” she said. “It was clear that the reason he was a successful leader was because he consistently kept the students at the forefront all all his decisions, and that is exactly what I intended to do as a leader too.” she added.
After spending more than two decades working in education at Hayward, Tremblay said she was attracted to the job in Barron “because the district has been so welcoming … (and) … everyone there has student achievement and success in mind.“I can see and hear (that attitude) in every conversation I’ve had,” she added. “I want to be part of that.”
In addition to her work in education, Tremblay is also involved in a couple family businesses, including her husband’s beef cattle operation, known as Sweet Acres Farming, retail leasing properties, and candy factories called Tremblay’s Sweet Shop Stores and they have building locations in Hayward, Minocqua, and Eagle River.
The Tremblay’s have four daughters, the oldest of whom is 25-year-old Chelsea, graduated from college with a degree in finance. “She will be Charles’ right hand person with financial and all business expansion matters,” Tremblay said.
The other three children include:
• Alyssabeth, 23, who has her degree in biomedical engineering and masters in Michanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She works in Ft. Lauderdale at Stryker Pharmaceuticals Corporation.
• Lauren, 21, attends North Dakota State as an aspiring Nurse Practitioner and participating in College Rodeo
• Gabrielle, 19, she will be attending Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska, playing golf and working toward a law degree the universities 3 by 3 program.
Diane holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and psychology from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota, a master's degree from Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee, and she intends to continue working toward her doctorate degree. She also holds certifications in Curriculum, Principalship and District Administration.
