Procedure for transporting students regarding pick up and drop off locations

For all students utilizing the BASD transportation, there will be a change in procedure for pick up and drop off locations. Barron Area School District is committed to providing safe transportation to student’s destinations. We can do this when driver’s routes have consistent drop off and pick up points every day of the week. When these routes are consistent, bus capacities remain constant and teachers can easily get students to the proper afternoon bus without any confusion. For these reasons, the transportation department can no longer handle some single day or short term/weekly bus change requests. Here are some examples of commonly asked questions:

1. Can the school bus pick up and drop off your child in different locations? 
   
   Yes, your student may have one pick up location and one different drop off location, but the locations must be the same every day of the week, Monday thru Friday. An example would be for students who get on the bus from home, but attend a daycare after school or perhaps an older student who needs to be dropped off at a place of employment.

2. Can a student ride a different bus one day to go home with a friend? - YES, with a note from the parent/guardian stating the same. When the school office is made aware of such arrangements by 1:30 pm, a bus pass will be prepared for the student to give to the bus driver, therefore allowing the student to ride. 

3. Can a student ride a different bus in the afternoon to be dropped off at a nonschool activity certain days of the week? - NO. Each student is allowed one drop off location Monday thru Friday to maintain consistency of bus stop locations and passenger capacity levels of each bus. 

4. Can a student ride one bus M, W, F and ride a different bus T, Th? - NO. Each student is allowed one pick up and drop off location Monday thru Friday. An example of this could be for students previously enrolled in multiple daycares or who were going to multiple household locations in the afternoon throughout the week. Students will need to have one pick up and drop off location Monday - Friday. 

5. Can a student, while riding their normal bus, be dropped off at a different location on that route other than the designated destination? NO. Each student is allowed one drop off location Monday thru Friday. 

6. If a student has two primary guardianship household addresses listed in Infinite Campus, can a student be picked up/dropped off at one house one week, and the other house the next, alternating weeks? - YES, as long as the pick up and drop off location is consistent Monday thru Friday. For students with two primary guardianship  addresses that have unique joint legal custodial agreements, bus transportation can be arranged to accommodate these orders so long as requests are limited to one pick up and drop off location as determined per household.  

When students have plans that are different from their normal bussing schedule, parents can choose to pick up students from school as an alternative option when it has been properly communicated with the school office. Any such changes need to be reported to your child’s school office by 1:30. For younger students, Bear Cub Den and Boys and Girls Club is an option to utilize. This procedure is consistent with other districts, and we believe is necessary to provide safe transportation for all students.
