SAXON MATH CURRICULUM
Saxon Math is a unique way of learning math that gives students time to practice, process, and learn beyond mastery. It is also immediate, measurable, and has long lasting results. Saxon Math is also a hands-on approach with a difference.
Why Saxon Works:
-
Daily mixed practice
-
Frequent, cumulative assessment
-
Opportunities for connections, communication, and justification
Saxon Math 1: 1st to 2nd grade math level
-students are learning to count, add and subtract single digit number problems, start simple problem solving and processing skills, measuring, telling time, using a calendar, and counting money.
Saxon Math 2: 2nd to 3rd grade math level
-students are continuing to practice addition and subtraction, borrowing when subtracting, and double digit addition and subtraction, problem solving steps to figuring out a problem, measuring, telling time, counting money, simple multiplication, and finding area and perimeter.
Saxon Math 3: 3rd to 4th grade math level
-students are continuing to practice the above levels information, multiplication, simple division, telling time to the nearest minute, more complex problems for solving, finding the area and perimeter, and timed tests for number problems.
All new concepts are developed through hands-on activities and rich mathematical conversations that actively engage students in the learning process. Concepts are developed, reviewed, and practiced over time. Students move from the concrete to the pictorial to the abstract.
