DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES
Phone: 715-537-5612, ext. 406
My name is Katarina House and I am the Director of Pupil Services for the Barron Area School District. My responsibilities include Special Education Administration, Elementary/Secondary Education Act Program Coordination (Title I/English Language Learners/Homeless Students/Families), and District Assessment Coordination. I am also involved in finding resources for students who struggle to learn how to read. I work closely with the Title I Program and its endeavor to assist teachers and parents to increase reading skills for all students. I have a passion for seeing happy and content children, learning and collaborating in a safe and creative environment. I am involved in trauma focused strategies and work hard to ensure all children and families have what they need to be fulfilled and free individuals.
In 1994, I began my career in the Barron Area School District when I worked as a part-time school psychologist. I became full-time in 1996. For 4 years, I was employed by the Eau Claire Area School Distrrict as a school psychologist. I missed Barron and came back in 2005 when I added the role of Director of Special Education to my earlier role as a school psychologist. In 2012, I began in my current role as the Director of Pupil Services. I earned the majority of my degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology/Sociology, a Masters of Education Degree in School Psychology, and a Specialist in Education Degree in School Psychology). I went to the University of Wisconsin-Superior for my administrative license (Director of Special Education/Pupil Services).
One interesting fact about me is that I was born in Sweden and was raised on an island in the Baltic Sea (Vaxholm). I have lived in the United States since 1987 and I have been a US Citizen since 2008. I go home and visit my family as often as I can. My husband and I live in Chippewa Falls where we enjoy nature, gardening, and photography. I should also add that I truly enjoy cooking (and eating) Swedish food along with knitting!
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions and/or want to learn more about special education and other services within the Barron Area School District.
