Week 1 Letter Home
Welcome Band 5 students and parents! Third quarter is an exciting time for us as we transition to full band and continue growing in playing ability. Information about each aspect of band will be sent home on a weekly basis for you to understand the band program at Riverview Middle School. Please see my website for updates as well.
We will begin meeting periodically as a full band. This will mean a CHANGE to your lesson schedule. Please keep the attached schedule so you know when to come to band.
I am excited to work together as a full band! I think you will enjoy the learning and growing that takes place daily! As always, if you have questions, please communicate with me to get answers.

Week 2 Letter Home
Hello Band Students and Parents,
Grades are based on a total point system. What this means is that you receive points for what you do. The point totals vary from quarter to quarter and you will receive a letter at the beginning of each quarter to let you know what is required and the points available. Please keep this information readily available so if there is a question, you can get your answer right away. If there is a discrepancy, please see Mrs. Hale immediately to take care of it. If you don’t talk to me, I assume everything is fine.
Your grade is based on attendance in full band rehearsals, lessons, practice minutes, assignments given throughout the year and concert participation. You should have your instrument, music (including your book) and a pencil at all rehearsals and lessons. Practice outside of class and full band rehearsal will help you become a better musician and a better player. You will need to record your practice minutes and turn them in to me on specific dates. There will be points awarded for the amount of time you practice. The chart indicating how many practice minutes needed to receive a specific grade is included. A practice chart for you to keep your practice minutes is also included. Please look at InfiniteCampus to know that your grades and points have been entered correctly. Parents have access to this as well and should check periodically to see how you are doing in band. If there is any question, please contact me as soon as possible to get it answered. Don’t wait until the last week of the quarter to look at InfiniteCampus to get your grade.
Points are awarded as follows:
6 Lessons @ 10 Points ea. 60 points
Practice minutes 50 points
Daily Participation @ 2 points/day 20 points (through end of Feb.)
Daily Participation @ 2 points/day 40 points (March full band)
Total 170 points
Assignments as given by the teacher, points to be determined
Grade percentages will correlate with Riverview Middle School standards. Please see me if you have questions.
Musically yours,
Mrs. Hale

Practice Minutes Record Name _____________________
Please write the total number of minutes you practice each week. I will collect the practice minutes on February 18 and March 24. I would strongly suggest you practice at least 45 minutes per week to get the necessary practice minutes without cramming them in the last week. The chart listing the minutes is for each time I collect so 500 minutes total for the quarter. Total practice minutes points for quarter 3 is 50 (25 for each collection date)
