March 26, 2014
Dear Band Students,
Fourth quarter will begin next Monday. You have made good progress and I am proud of the work we have done to grow this year. The breakdown of grades is included here. Please take this home to share with your parents so if questions arise, you can contact me as soon as possible.
This quarter, you will be required to attend six (6) lessons. I am also allowing for extra credit points if you attend more than the required six lessons. Extra credit points will be limited to 10 (1 extra lesson) and must be done at your regularly scheduled lesson, not as a make-up. Lessons will remain at 10 points/lesson. We have our final, year-end concert on May 22 at the HS gym. More information will follow about the concert so please watch for announcements to your parents and check the website as well. I will collect practice minutes as we decide for a band. Once that decision is made, due dates will be sent home and put on the website. A practice minutes record will be given to you on Friday, March 28 to begin your records. You will also be graded on daily participation: attendance in class and having your instrument and music present with you. Two points are given for each band day scheduled. If you do not have your instrument and/or music, one point is deducted. Excused absences will be noted as such. A fourth quarter challenge will be happening as well. We will discuss this more during band. No late assignments will be accepted. Please note these due dates on your agenda. Any assignment given must be turned in by the end of class or it is considered late.
Quarter 4 grading is as follows:
6 lessons @ 10 points each 60 points
Practice minutes for the quarter 50 points
Concert Performance May 22 50 points
Daily participation 10 days @ 2 points each 20 points
TOTAL 180 points
You will be getting music to play as a full band. Please keep this music in your folder. This music may be used again later so it is important for us to keep the music in the condition you receive it. Let’s make the fourth quarter one to remember!
Yours in music,
Mrs. Hale

Collection Dates are listed in your practice chart April 30 and June 2. Please have this paper with you on collection days. I will write down the number of minutes you have so you can keep the paper with you to write down what you practice. Notice the dates for week 10. This is a shorter week and you will need to get your minutes to me on a Monday. Please bring them to the band room or ask the office staff to put it in my mailbox.
